Huarocondo, Cusco – With great participation from the local population, the 1st Regional Forum “Synergies for a Sustainable Future: Disaster Risk Management, Forest Fires, Ecosystem Conservation and Food Security” was held , an event dedicated to training, awareness and community action in the face of the climate and environmental challenges facing the region.

The meeting brought together representatives of peasant communities from the district of Huarocondo, who received direct training on techniques for preventing and responding to forest fires, as well as strategies to protect ecosystems and ensure the food security of their families.

This forum marked an important milestone in promoting a culture of prevention and resilience, with men, women, and young people actively participating in the event and expressing satisfaction with the knowledge gained. “Prevention is key, and now we feel better prepared to care for our forests and our farms,” one of the participants noted.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of national and international institutions that combined their efforts and expertise. We deeply appreciate the valuable participation of experts from INDECI, CENEPRED, SERFOR, the Natural Resources Management Office of the Cusco Regional Government, COAR, IMA, USAID, and CONAF-Chile , whose experience was fundamental to the forum’s success.

In addition to strengthening local capacities, this space for dialogue and exchange has laid the foundations for stronger inter-institutional coordination, fostering synergies that aim for sustainable management of the territory.

With events like this, Huarocondo not only prepares itself better for natural disasters, but also strengthens the long-term sustainability of its community projects, placing the residents as protagonists of change and defenders of their environment.
