Consul Dennis Raffael visits microproject supported by the German Embassy.
Huarocondo, Cusco – Consul Dennis Raffael , representative of the German Embassy in Peru, visited the Urinsaya Ccollana peasant community, located in the district of Huarocondo, as part of the follow-up to the micro-project “Climate Management and Protection of Andean Ecosystems in the Huarocondo Microbasin” . This project, promoted by the Pachaillariy association and supported by the German government, promotes an integrated approach to food security and environmental sustainability.
During his visit, the Consul was able to see firsthand the progress made in the first four months of the project. Accompanied by community representatives and the project’s technical team, he visited the organic gardens installed in various homes, where the women and men who are beneficiaries proudly displayed the variety of vegetables they now cultivate sustainably.
“It’s impressive to see how concrete results are already being seen in such a short time,” Raffael emphasized . On its social media, the German Embassy in Lima also celebrated the initiative, highlighting its positive impact on the daily lives of farming families.
In an area where subsistence farming traditionally focuses on crops like corn, beans, and potatoes—mainly in the lower valley floors—open-field vegetable gardens have brought about a significant transformation. Now, families are not only diversifying their diets by incorporating fresh vegetables, but they are also adopting more sustainable and climate-adaptive farming techniques.
One of the aspects most valued by the population is the technified irrigation system implemented as part of the project, which optimizes the use of water in a context where this resource is limited and vulnerable.
With this experience, the community reaffirms its commitment to resilient rural development, focused on collective well-being, the protection of ecosystems, and the strengthening of its food security.
